विश्व एड्स दिवस (World Aids Day) हर साल 1 दिसंबर (December 1) को मनाया जाता है. विश्व एड्स दिवस (World Aids Day 2018) का उद्देश्य एचआईवी संक्रमण की वजह से होने वाली बीमारी एड्स के बारे में जागरुकता बढ़ाना है. साल 2018 में वर्ल्ड एड्स डे की थीम' (World Aids Day 2018 Theme) 'अपनी स्थिति जानें' है. इसका मतलब यह है कि हर इंसान को अपने एचआईवी स्टेटस की जानकारी होनी चाहिए. एड्स (Aids) वर्तमान युग की सबसे बड़ी स्वास्थ्य समस्याओं में से एक है. UNICEF की रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक 36.9 मिलियन लोग HIV के शिकार हो चुके हैं. भारत सरकार द्वारा जारी किए गए आकड़ों के अनुसार भारत में एचआईवी (HIV) के रोगियों की संख्या लगभग 2.1 मिलियन है.

कैसे हुई विश्व एड्स दिवस (World Aids Day) की शुरुआत?
विश्व एड्स दिवस (World Aids Day) सबसे पहले अगस्त 1987 में जेम्स डब्ल्यू बुन और थॉमस नेटर नाम के व्यक्ति ने मनाया था. जेम्स डब्ल्यू बुन और थॉमस नेटर विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन में एड्स पर ग्लोबल कार्यक्रम (WHO) के लिए अधिकारियों के रूप में जिनेवा, स्विट्जरलैंड में नियुक्त थे. जेम्स डब्ल्यू बुन और थॉमस नेटर ने WHO के ग्लोबल प्रोग्राम ऑन एड्स के डायरेक्टर जोनाथन मान के सामने विश्व एड्स दिवस मनाने का सुझाव रखा. जोनाथन को विश्व एड्स दिवस (World Aids Day) मनाने का विचार अच्छा लगा और उन्होंने 1 दिसंबर 1988 को विश्व एड्स डे मनाने के लिए चुना. बता दें कि आठ सरकारी सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य दिवसों में विश्व एड्स दिवस शामिल है.

World AIDS Day 2018: Theme, awareness slogans, history, key facts

Today, that is December 1 2018, World Health Organisation (WHO) joins global partners and citizens to commemorate AIDS Day under the theme 'Know Your Status'.

This is also an occasion to celebrate the 30th anniversary of World AIDS Day -- a pioneering global health campaign first initiated by WHO in 1988.

2 objectives of the theme of AIDS Day 2018

It is estimated that currently only 75 per cent of people with HIV know their status.

WHO advocacy and communication for World AIDS Day 2018 with the theme 'Know Your Status' aims to achieve the following objectives:

Urge people to know their HIV infection status through testing, and to access HIV prevention, treatment and care services

Urge policy-makers to promote a 'health for all' agenda for HIV and related health services, such as tuberculosis (TB), hepatitis and non-communicable diseases
